#33: Jamaica Blue @ Buona Vista

The new mall, The Star Vista, located just next to Buona Vista MRT is a gem to the area barren of city life. Most of the stores in this mall are F&B and it houses some really rare ones such as Jamaica Blue and Boston Seafood Shack. Jamaica Blue originates from Australia and it started out a good ten years ago. Serving an extensive menu in this little cafe, you'd be spoilt for choice. The coffee it has is unique but it might not outfight the ones served in other cafes in Singapore.

The Place

With a jewel-shaped store brightened by natural lighting through the full length window, the cafe is attractive in every way. The window seats with cushioned chairs are lovely and perfect for crowd gazing.

Long table to accommodate bigger groups and more people is ideal for this small indoor space.

They also have alfresco seating but it is not ideal in this rainy December.

Love the design on their serviette!

The Food

My friend ordered a Hot Chocolate for this rainy weather. Personally I have never come across a really nice cup of hot chocolate and this was just another disappointing cup to add to the list. The chocolate wasn't thick enough and tasted pretty much like cheap chocolate. Definitely not worth the price of $5.50.

I have seen Affogato in most coffee places and I have always been curious about it. To feed my weird habit of eating ice cream on a rainy day, I ordered one and was really excited to try it.

On the first taste.. BITTTERRRRR. The shot of espresso was too bitter for me to handle. Yes, I love coffee but just the sweet kind. The ice cream tasted quite unique and the drink was better when the ice cream was dipped with a little of the espresso. With that amount of bitterness I think I need at least 2 scoops of ice cream. After numerous sips, the coffee started tasting more sour (or acidic) than bitter and it really didn't go well on my tongue. The bitter aftertaste was strong and I had to add sugar syrup in order for me to finish the drink.

A unique first-time affogato experience and I would be going around trying more to see if all Affogato tastes like that!

The Menu

{ In a nutshell }

I love this place for its ambience and would go back there for a nice little hangout. However, no more hot chocolate or affogato from this place for me! Would like to try their normal coffee drinks like latter or frappe next time!
